Beaded Tweets

On November 13, 2023, our class had the opportunity to learn about Noelle Pepin’s Beaded Tweets program. Beaded Tweets was a really cool way of introducing the foundations of eight-bit coding through the activity of beading. As teacher candidates, we were able to do some of our own beading. We began by choosing a word that we wanted to integrate into our beads and then we mapped out how we would “code’ it. We chose one distinct colour and one white colour. The process was quite easy and ended up being a very fun way to engage with coding and also with beading. Some of the examples that were shared with the class were incredible because of their creativity and skill. Beaded Tweets is a really helpful resource to bring into the classroom to engage students with the foundations of coding. Making these concepts fun for the students will dramatically improve engagement. Pictured below is the Beaded Tweets necklace that I created. It says ‘Chelsea’ in eight-bit code.
